North West Expresses Desire to Work at Starbucks Next Year

Musician North West revealed in a interview published August 24 that she intends to apply for a job at Starbucks next year. The 13-year-old daughter of Kim Kardashian and Ye stated she wants to balance her music work with an ordinary employment experience once she turns 14.

Addressing her career aspirations beyond her musical achievements, West explained her motivation for seeking a conventional workplace role in her interview with Dazed.

"I still wanna work. I wanna work at, like, Starbucks next year," said West. "I think I can next year 'cause I'm gonna be 14, so... I think I can."

West further detailed that her reasoning stems from a desire for normalcy, alongside her existing creative endeavors.

"I want to have a regular job," said West.

When asked about alternative paths if she were not pursuing music, West noted that her previous ambition of becoming a basketball player is no longer active, according to interview records.

"No, it's not. What would I be? I still wanna work.

I wanna work at, like, Starbucks next year," said West. "I think I can next year 'cause I'm gonna be 14, so… I think I can. I want to have a regular job, I guess."

West launched her music career on May 1 with the release of her six-track debut EP, N0rth4evr. The release was followed by a music video for the track "Aishite" on August 7, as well as live festival appearances at Rolling Loud in Orlando alongside Molly Santana and her first solo festival performance at Summer Smash in June.

Addressing critics who suggest she should delay her entry into the music industry, West emphasized that she views her creative work as a long-term focus.

"It's like, nah, this is my hobby," said West. "this is what I like to do, this is what I wanna do with my life."

West shared similar sentiments regarding the bad advice she has received from others about her timeline.

"To start my career later," said West. "It's like, nah, this is my hobby, this is what I like to do, this is what I wanna do with my life."

Reflecting on her performance at Summer Smash, West noted that she felt prepared to step onto the stage earlier than scheduled.

"Yeah, I wish I'd done it earlier, though. I've been ready," said West.

West added that her approach to performance prep has evolved to include daily dance rehearsals rather than spontaneous stage appearances.

"I don't like to rest a lot. I like to get stuff done," said West. "So maybe just going to rehearsal, and then going to the studio; that's a perfect day."

Regarding her personal aesthetic, West noted that she prefers styling choices like blue hair and facial piercings over typical teenage activities, presenting a direct case to her mother.

"Everyone's in love with boys, vaping and doing all kinds of bad stuff," said West. "All I want is blue hair and piercings."

Alongside music, West noted that she regularly uses social media platforms like TikTok and Pinterest to create moodboards for her hair and nails, while stepping back from previous hobbies like oil painting due to the cleanup process.

"I was really into painting sunsets," said West. "I paint for fun sometimes, but the paint I use always gets on my hands… like oil paints. So it's not easy to take off."

When Pinterest lacks specific visual concepts, West explained her custom solution for design planning.

"I just be making it up," said West. "I gotta draw it too, 'cause there's nothing on Pinterest. I can't find what I really want for real."
