CBS Unveils 21 Castaways for Survivor Season 51 Open Era

CBS and host Jeff Probst unveiled 21 new contestants for "Survivor 51" during a YouTube livestream on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, marking the launch of the series' new "Open Era" format ahead of its two-hour premiere on September 23, 2026.

The upcoming season filmed in Fiji features an all-new roster of competitors vying for the $1 million grand prize, including a professional wrestler, a criminal defense attorney, a sociology professor, a livestock farmer, a voice actor, and a game designer.

Network officials announced that the new "Open Era" format removes previous game restrictions, allowing twists, hidden immunity idols, and advantages from past seasons to return at any time without advance warning to the players.

The diverse group of castaways includes players from across the United States, Canada, and Ireland who bring various professional backgrounds to the physical and strategic competition.

Following the two-hour season premiere on September 23 at 8 p.m. ET/PT, subsequent episodes of "Survivor 51" will return to their regular 90-minute broadcast schedule starting September 30.
