Tropical Storm Julio Set to Merge with Iselle in Pacific Ocean

Tropical Storm Julio is on track to be absorbed by Tropical Storm Iselle in the Pacific Ocean near the Baja California peninsula, as of August 25, 2026, according to the U.S. National Hurricane Center (NHC).

Julio formed early Tuesday and was located about 1,010 kilometers (630 miles) west of the southern tip of Baja California with sustained winds near 75 km/h (45 mph). Iselle, further west at 1,245 kilometers (775 miles) from the peninsula, had winds of 95 km/h (60 mph).

The NHC forecasts that Julio will merge into Iselle later Tuesday. No warnings or watches are currently in effect for either storm.

Additionally, Tropical Storm Lala continues moving in the central Pacific with winds of 80 km/h (50 mph) but poses no threat to land. Lala’s outer bands recently caused destructive flooding in Hawaii when it held hurricane strength.

The NHC also reported that Moke is no longer classified as a tropical cyclone after passing near Hawaii as a tropical storm.

Meteorologist Víctor Manuel Cornejo López noted that Iselle is moving away from the Mexican coast but is leaving behind areas of low pressure that could develop into another tropical cyclone near the Pacific coast of Mexico.

"Iselle continues strengthening while moving away from Mexican shores, without significant effects on the country, mostly just rain," Cornejo López said.

He added, "It is leaving seeds as there are two low-pressure centers with potential for cyclonic development, one close to becoming a disturbance with extensive cloud cover and heavy rain south of Acapulco. This will likely be the next cyclone by the end of the month."

Cornejo López also mentioned that tropical waves 30 and 31 moving through the region will activate these low-pressure areas, leading to scattered showers and rain in western and coastal Pacific states, including Jalisco.

According to Windy forecasts, the next tropical cyclone is expected to form by Friday and track similarly to Iselle, possibly closer to the coast but without direct impact risk.

In the Bay of Banderas region, conditions for scattered rain and showers with temperatures reaching 33-34 degrees Celsius are expected later on Monday.
