Tropical Storm Iselle Absorbs Julio Over Pacific Ocean

Tropical Storm Iselle absorbed the weaker Tropical Storm Julio over the Pacific Ocean on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, as both weather systems moved away from land without posing any danger to coastal populations.

The U.S. National Hurricane Center (NHC) announced the formation of Tropical Storm Julio early Tuesday morning. Julio originated from tropical depression Ten-E and carried maximum sustained winds of 50 mph (80 km/h) to 52 mph (85 km/h) with gusts reaching up to 62 mph (100 km/h).

Julio was located roughly 675 miles (1,085 kilometers) west-southwest of the southern tip of the Baja California peninsula, moving north-northeast at 12 mph (20 km/h) to 22 mph (35 km/h) before being absorbed by Iselle.

Iselle maintained a stronger profile further north, packing sustained winds of 70 mph (113 km/h) with gusts up to 87 mph (140 km/h). Positioned about 730 miles (1,175 kilometers) west of Baja California, Iselle moved northwest at 15 mph (24 km/h).

Mexico's National Meteorological Service (SMN) and the National Water Commission (Conagua) confirmed that neither storm posed a threat to the Mexican mainland or the state of Nuevo Leon. Authorities issued no coastal watches or warnings for either system.

In the Central Pacific, Tropical Storm Lala moved across open waters with 50 mph (80 km/h) winds without threatening land. Meanwhile, the NHC reported that former tropical storm Moke had ceased to be a tropical cyclone after skirting past Hawaii.
