Toxic Opens to Mixed Audience Reviews Despite Massive Advance Sales

Audience reactions split sharply on social media platform Twitter following early theatrical screenings of the action drama Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups on August 26, 2026. The film stars actor Yash in a dual role under the direction of Geethu Mohandas.

Despite the divided initial word-of-mouth regarding narrative execution, the Rs 500-crore budget film demonstrated substantial commercial traction. Data from box office tracking platform Sacnilk showed the feature collected Rs 64.85 crore in gross Day 1 advance bookings across India, including block seats, by 6 a.m.

Industry trade analyst Ramesh Bala praised the technical execution of the production while highlighting the lead actor's dual performance on social media.

"Toxic is a technically brilliant visual spectacle with Hollywood-style production design, cinematography, action, and powerful BGM by Ravi Basrur. Yash delivers a commanding performance in both roles, and the father-son climax fight is a major big-screen theater moment," said Ramesh Bala, film trade analyst.

Conversely, several audience members expressed critical views regarding the narrative pacing and character development during early screenings.

"TOXIC First Half: Heavy KGF Hangover! Full of violence and style, but with little substance so far. Yash is in full-on KGF mode as Raya.

Lots of bold scenes with women and too many action blocks without any real highs. Yash's screen presence is superb. Interval block is decent," wrote one audience reviewer on Twitter.

Another viewer highlighted issues regarding the structural editing and musical score during the initial portion of the feature.

"Toxic Very Messy 1st Half! Apart from the technical quality, this one is all over the place so far. Heavy KGF hangover with a very clumsy and tiring screenplay.

Even the action feels artificial with excessive mocobot usage, while the BGM is also a major letdown. Only the interval and a few Yash-Kiara scenes are somewhat better. The rest has been a dud so far..," stated a second audience reviewer on Twitter.

A third social media user noted a disconnect between the film's production scale and its storytelling coherence.

"Toxic - First Half Ultra Stylish Yash & Rich Productions Values r plus. Circus Fight Super. Has Style, Glamour, Violence.

But No proper Character Intro, Dialogues, No Emotional Connect. Random Characters and a Clueless screenplay!," posted a third audience reviewer on Twitter.

The feature film release also features performances by Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Huma Qureshi, Tara Sutaria, and Rukmini Vasanth in prominent supporting roles.
