Kannada Action Drama Toxic Amasses over Rs 40 Crore Pre-Release

Kannada superstar Yash returned to cinema screens on August 26, 2026, as his period action drama Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups generated over Rs 40 crore in domestic advance sales across 18,000 shows prior to its theatrical release.

Box office tracking portal Sacnilk reported that the Geetu Mohandas directorial sold over 900,000 tickets on BookMyShow, making it only the second Kannada film to surpass 1 million pre-release tickets after Yash's previous release, KGF: Chapter 2.

The Hindi-dubbed version led pre-sales, generating approximately Rs 16.4 crore with 490,000 tickets sold, while the Kannada language track recorded nearly Rs 14 crore. Tamil, Malayalam, and Telugu releases accounted for the remaining regional sales momentum.

Backed by KVN Productions, the Rs 500-crore budget action epic spans five decades across a drug trade operating out of Goa. The story portrays Yash in a dual role as father and son, alongside ensemble performances from Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, Huma Qureshi, Tara Sutaria, and Rukmini Vasanth.

Film reviewer side IGN noted the visual construction, describing a scene where a child handed over at a circus leads into complex gangland conflicts.

"Sadly, the film’s sloppy assembly doesn’t end at its visual construction," reported IGN in its review of the film's fast-paced editing and musical score choices.

Regarding narrative execution and dialogue delivery in the multi-language project, the review highlighted how the script handles character interactions across its 194-minute runtime.

"The sheer number of cuts with no legible point of focus or geography is disorienting to say the least. Watching Toxic might just require you to turn your eyes off from time to time too," reported IGN.

The film faced multiple scheduling shifts prior to its August 26 rollout. Production delays, scheduling adjustments around other major releases, and Middle East geopolitical tensions originally pushed the project past its intended release dates in April 2025 and March 2026.

The film carries an 'Adults Only' rating from India's censor board due to intense violence and sensual themes, with global projections expecting theatrical grossing to cross Rs 100 crore worldwide.
