Bengaluru Court Shields Yash Movie Toxic Against Misinformation

A Bengaluru civil court issued an interim injunction on August 25, 2026, barring online platforms from circulating defamatory or false content about the feature film Toxic: A Fairytale For Grown-Ups prior to its release.

The legal action was initiated by the film's production house ahead of its theatrical debut on August 26, 2026. The ex-parte interim injunction restricts individuals, YouTube channels, social media users, and websites from publishing misleading material.

The court noted that a prima facie case existed in favor of the filmmakers and that denying relief could result in a multiplicity of legal proceedings. The order explicitly restrains any party from communicating or sharing derogatory news regarding the project.

The interim injunction was granted under Order 39 Rules 1 and 2 of the Civil Procedure Code. In delivering the ruling, the court cited the Karnataka High Court precedent set in Meera Ajith v. John Doe @ Ashok Kumar, which allows injunctions against unnamed parties when a genuine threat is established.

The restriction specifically targets malicious or false narratives designed to harm the reputation of the film. Standard film reviews, public discussions, and honest criticism from audiences or critics remain entirely permitted under the court order.

The injunction will remain effective until the next scheduled court hearing on September 28, 2026.
