Suspect in Oregon Quintuple Homicide Found Dead in Washington

Law enforcement authorities found 36-year-old Benjamin Charles Parker dead from an apparent suicide inside his vehicle in Enumclaw, Washington, following the discovery of five murder victims and several dead domestic animals at a rural property outside Forest Grove, Oregon, on August 22, 2026.

Deputies from the Washington County Sheriff's Office originally responded at 5:27 a.m. on Saturday to assist Forest Grove Fire & Rescue with a reported vehicle fire at 47350 Northwest Otis Lane. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered human remains and alerted law enforcement.

First responders subsequently located a total of five deceased individuals and multiple dead pets across the heavily vegetated rural property. Investigators confirmed the deaths are being handled as a quintuple homicide and do not believe the incident was a random act of violence.

Officers with the Enumclaw Police Department located Parker's body behind a Safeway grocery store in Washington later on Sunday. Officials confirmed the scene was directly connected to the Oregon homicides and noted there is no ongoing threat to the public.

The Washington County Sheriff's Office Detective Unit is leading the investigation with assistance from the Washington County Major Crimes Team, state forensics units, K-9 teams, and county animal services. Officials delayed initial public statements for over 24 hours to process the complex scene and notify the victims' next of kin.

Emergency dispatch audio from the initial response recorded firefighters requesting immediate law enforcement backup after discovering the victims on site.

"We do have a deceased victim here. We are going to need law enforcement," a firefighter said in the audio transmission.

Firefighters then requested additional emergency responses after identifying more victims at the location.

"We need a police unit, or a sheriff’s office unit code 3 at the scene. Just in case, we have two victims here," another firefighter transmission said.

A third audio recording documented the decision by fire personnel to clear the location for police units.

"This is some suspicious circumstances certainly. So we’re going to take our hoses and get out of here, and let the sheriff’s office clear this," a firefighter said.

Detectives emphasized that the heavily forested geography of the area required extensive resources to secure and inspect.

"It's a rural area, and there are other homes out there, but there's a lot of vegetation and and land and hills and and forests out there. So I'll just say it's a rural area that's got a lot of various various properties on it," said Shannon Wilde, Detective with the Washington County Sheriff's Office.

Wilde confirmed that authorities were actively searching for a suspect prior to the discovery of Parker's body in Washington state.

"There is someone that we don't have in custody that committed this act," Detective Wilde said.

Addressing the timeline of the investigation, Wilde explained that law enforcement prioritized thoroughness and family notifications over immediate public briefings.

"This is a very complex investigation. The number of personnel we had, and the activeness of it once we determined the severity of what happened," Detective Wilde said.

Wilde noted that officials took necessary steps to ensure precision before briefing media outlets.

"We wanted to make sure that we had accurate information to release and that we are doing that in a responsible way. We recognize that the amount of time is a concern. However, again, just balancing the investigative piece.

There's also, we were trying to identify these people and notify their next-of-kin before we had a press conference, so that's a factor in any death investigation, trying to notify people's families of what happened. But again, very active investigation with a lot of moving pieces," Detective Wilde continued.

Wilde urged local community members to remain vigilant while teams processed the location.

"Always exercise precaution. Lock your doors. If you see anything suspicious, please call us," Detective Wilde added.

Sheriff's leadership highlighted the unusual scope of the crime scene during Sunday press statements.

"In my 22 years here, I have not been a part of, or witnessed, a scene quite this complex, involving this type of an investigation. And I'm just going to lead in and say that I recognize that this incident is deeply concerning to our community. Our investigators are working to determine what happened, and we have dedicated every available resource to this case," said Caprice Massey, Washington County Sheriff.

Following the discovery of the suspect in Enumclaw, Sheriff Massey confirmed the individual's cause of death.

"It is believed he died by suicide," Sheriff Massey said.

Massey reassured the public that investigators no longer suspect an ongoing danger to the surrounding neighborhoods.

"Detectives do not believe there is a danger to the public," Sheriff Massey said.

"I want to make it clear, investigators would love to talk with anyone familiar with this residence or the people that live there. There are no details too small," Sheriff Massey said.

Authorities have not yet released the identities of the five victims as forensically identifying the deceased and notifying remaining family members remains ongoing.
