Sofía Vergara Embraces Family Entertaining and Health Awareness

Sofía Vergara, known for "Modern Family," incorporates family traditions into her entertaining style in Los Angeles, reflecting her upbringing in Barranquilla, Colombia.

She frequently hosts gatherings, ensuring guests feel welcome through curated music, chef-prepared meals, and a warm atmosphere. Her mother, who has high blood pressure, visits often from Miami, prompting Vergara to emphasize health-conscious hospitality.

"I grew up in Colombia. It's like, I don't even think we call it entertain," Vergara said. "I think it's just, you know, part of our life to be together eating, dancing, celebrating."

To raise awareness about hypertension, Vergara partnered with a health campaign encouraging patients to stay informed about their condition.

"My mom is 70-something, and trying to get her to do anything is a little bit frustrating," Vergara shared. "It's important for me as a Latino woman because in the Latin community, a lot of people suffer from high blood pressure and diabetes. The beautiful thing about this mission is that we're trying to educate people that have suffered from that, which is very common."

Her son Manolo, inspired by Food Network chefs, enjoys cooking and often takes charge in the kitchen during family events.

"I don't even remember how it started, but I cook the Thanksgiving turkey every year," Manolo said. "I'll make sweet potato casserole, the stuffing, whatever's needed. I like cooking, it makes me happy."

Together, Vergara and Manolo launched Toma in 2024, a ready-to-make empanada company expanding its offerings and availability in stores.

"It's a great way for us to share our culture and love of food with everyone," Manolo said.
