Seattle Seahawks Sign Free Agent Cornerback Trevon Diggs

The reigning Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks signed former All-Pro cornerback Trevon Diggs to a one-year contract on August 19, 2026, addressing secondary depth as the team navigates injuries and off-field uncertainty at the position.

Seattle general manager John Schneider moved swiftly to fortify the defense after losing starting cornerbacks Riq Woolen and Cobe Bryant in free agency. Diggs joins a crowded secondary competition alongside offseason additions Noah Igbinoghene, Julian Neal, Nehemiah Pritchett, and Josh Jobe.

The signing comes as Seattle awaits the status of cornerback Terrion Arnold, who agreed to a minimum-salary deal but faces placement on the commissioner's exempt list due to pending felony charges in Florida, preventing him from practicing or playing.

Diggs spent the first five seasons of his career with the Dallas Cowboys, earning First-Team All-Pro honors in 2021 after leading the NFL with 11 interceptions, before brief stints with Green Bay and Seattle.

Health concerns have limited Diggs to 22 games over the past three seasons following a torn ACL in 2023, subsequent knee surgery in 2024, and a concussion in 2025.

The veteran defensive back highlighted his familiarity with Seattle's coaching staff, including defensive coordinator Aden Durde and defensive passing game coordinator Karl Scott, as a primary reason for choosing the Seahawks after visiting the Detroit Lions.

"I'm looking to show that I'm still the best," Diggs said. "I'm looking to show that I just want to win, be there for my teammates, be a great teammate and be a great player."

Diggs noted that former Dallas teammates DeMarcus Lawrence and Dante Fowler Jr. helped convince him that Seattle provided the ideal landing spot to revitalize his career.

"I was supposed to see a couple other teams, but I liked it here a lot," Diggs said. "It feels like home. I've got a lot of familiar faces, Coach Scott, AD, so just being a part of those guys, those guys knowing me, knowing where my heart is, knowing how I want to compete, it felt right."

Addressing his physical condition following consecutive injury-plagued campaigns, Diggs emphasized that he has regained full health ahead of the upcoming regular season.

"It's my first offseason that I've been able to not rehab and actually do offseason training," Diggs said. "A lot of trainers have put the work in, helped me put the work in to get to where I'm at today. I'm truly thankful for that. It's a blessing from God, honestly, just to be able to come out here again."

Expressing enthusiasm about joining head coach Mike Macdonald's defensive system, Diggs praised the team's relentless style of play on defense.

"Amazing," Diggs said. "It looks amazing. They get to the quarterback, they create turnovers, they do all the right things, so I'm excited to hopefully be a part of it. Just go out there and compete and just try to help this team win, that's all I want to do."

Acknowledging the work required to earn a starting role in Seattle's secondary, Diggs stated his focus remains entirely on competing for playing time during training camp.

"I'm just coming here to compete," Diggs said. "I just want to come here and compete, earn my keep and do everything I can to earn a spot here and help this team win."

Diggs reiterated his personal baseline objective for the 2026 campaign after experiencing multiple setbacks over the prior three years.

"I just want to be able to play healthy this year, full season, and help," Diggs said.

Seattle must reduce its roster ahead of the league-mandated cutdown deadline on August 30, 2026, ahead of a Week 13 matchup against Dallas on December 7.
