Ryan Reynolds Celebrates Blake Lively 39th Birthday With Family Tribute
Actor Ryan Reynolds marked the 39th birthday of his wife, actress Blake Lively, on August 25, 2026, by publishing a tribute post alongside photos of their family on social media the following day.
"August 25th is this family’s Super Bowl™️," Reynolds wrote on social media alongside photos of her.
"Happy Birthday to the very best human I know. You're not just another courageous and deeply kind genius. You're also unreasonably cute.
I know how lucky I am that you were born. Every time I've ever hit my head, it's YOUR life that flashes before my eyes."
Reynolds and Lively were married in 2012 after meeting on the set of the 2011 DC film Green Lantern. They are parents to four children: daughters James, 11; Inez, 9; and Betty, 6; and son Olin, 3. The images shared featured moments with their children, though their faces were strategically obscured to protect their privacy.
"Really without getting into too much, I'll just say I've never in my life been more proud of my wife," said Reynolds during an interview with Today in April regarding Lively's legal conflict with co-star and director Justin Baldoni.
"People have no idea what's really going on. And I've just never in my life been more proud of someone with that level of integrity that brings that with them and carries that with them in everything that they do."
The legal dispute began when Lively filed a complaint alleging sexual harassment against Baldoni in December 2024, followed by a dismissed counter-suit from Baldoni in early 2025. The parties resolved the matter prior to trial, with Lively later receiving $407,451.75 in attorney's fees.
"My husband and I chose a profession and a side effect of that is your personal life is public," explained Lively to Marie Claire U.K. in 2016.
"Our child hasn't had the opportunity to choose whether or not she wants her personal life to be public or not. Actor Ryan Reynolds celebrated the 39th birthday of his wife, Blake Lively, on August 25, sharing rare personal family photos and a heartfelt social media message to honor the milestone.
The couple, who married in 2012, share four children: daughters James, 11, Inez, 9, and Betty, 6, alongside 3-year-old son Olin. Reynolds posted images highlighting their life together, taking care to obscure their children's faces with emojis to guard their privacy online.
"August 25th is this family’s Super Bowl™️," Reynolds posted on Instagram.
Reynolds went on to praise his wife in the tribute message while maintaining his trademark humor regarding their marital bond.
"Happy Birthday to the very best human I know. You're not just another courageous and deeply kind genius. You're also unreasonably cute.
I know how lucky I am that you were born. Every time I've ever hit my head, it's YOUR life that flashes before my eyes," Reynolds added.
Lively previously explained her boundary regarding public exposure for their kids during a 2016 interview with Marie Claire U.K.
"My husband and I chose a profession and a side effect of that is your personal life is public," Lively stated. "Our child hasn't had the opportunity to choose whether or not she wants her personal life to be public or not. So in order to give her as much normality as possible, we want her to have a childhood like we had."
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter in 2024, Reynolds discussed the couple's shared parenting principles and desire to cultivate empathy in their children.
"We try to give them as normal a life as possible," Reynolds said. "They’re already very much in touch with gratitude and understanding the world enough to have a strong sense of empathy. Those are the things that I would think [would indicate] we’re doing an OK job—if our kids can empathize with other people and other kids."
Reflecting on his upbringing compared to his family's current reality, the Free Guy star noted the differences in childhood environments.
"We both grew up very working class, and I remember when they were very young, I used to say or think, like, 'Oh god, I would never have had a gift like this when I was a kid,' or, 'I never would’ve had this luxury of getting takeout,' or whatever," Reynolds shared. "Then I realized that that’s not really their bag of rocks to carry."
He further elaborated on the cultural shifts between generations of parenting.
"When I was a kid, you would just suck it up, get out of the house and be back by sundown, which I just can’t even imagine now," Reynolds added.
Reynolds previously publicly praised Lively's character during an interview on Today in April, following legal disputes involving her It Ends With Us director, Justin Baldoni.
"Really without getting into too much, I'll just say I've never in my life been more proud of my wife," Reynolds said on Today.
He emphasized his admiration for how she handled ongoing public and professional challenges.
"People have no idea what's really going on. And I've just never in my life been more proud of someone with that level of integrity that brings that with them and carries that with them in everything that they do," Reynolds added.
The birthday post received well-wishes from family and industry colleagues, including actor Hugh Jackman and Lively's brother-in-law Bart Johnson.
