Lightning Strike Kills Mother and Daughter in Margate

A lightning strike killed 31-year-old Kenya Glasgow and her 2-year-old daughter, Kennedi, outside a relative's home in Margate, Florida, on Sunday afternoon around 2:30 p.m. as an afternoon thunderstorm swept through Broward County.

Emergency crews responded to a 911 call in the 7900 block of Northwest First Street. Responders rushed both victims to separate medical facilities, where hospital staff pronounced them dead shortly after arrival, local police reported.

The family of four had just arrived at the location to attend a family dinner when severe weather rapidly approached. Kameron Glasgow, Kenya's husband, survived the incident alongside Kennedi's twin sister, Kensli, though he felt the electrical discharge through the earth.

"We saw that the rain was picking up and we just said, 'Hey, we got to get the girls inside,'" said Kameron Glasgow.

He recalled experiencing the physical shock immediately before witnessing the direct impact on his family.

"I got the aftershock from the ground," Glasgow said. "By the grace of God, I'm still here."

The sudden loss left the family confronting severe trauma while caring for the surviving twin daughter.

"To turn around and see your wife and your daughter there lifeless is even worse," Glasgow said.

He expressed concern over how the tragedy will affect his young daughter moving forward.

"Words can't describe that feeling," Glasgow said.

The grief remains intense as the young child struggles to comprehend the absence of her twin sister.

"For her to lose her twin sister, words can't describe that feeling because I know she can't even fathom it right now," he said.

Glasgow reflected on his late wife's selfless nature and her dedication to helping those around her.

"My wife -- the biggest heart in the world," Glasgow said. "The biggest heart in the world. Puts everybody before herself."

The couple had known each other for years, originally meeting during their senior year of high school.

"She helped me make me into the man that I am today," Glasgow said.

He remembered his daughter Kennedi as an energetic child who had a passionate love for music.

"I've never seen a 2-year-old sing Benson Boone on a karaoke with a mic word for word," he said. "Two years old and as clear as day. 'Beautiful Things', that's her favorite song."

He felt that the birth of his twin daughters was a comfort following his father's passing, making the sudden loss even harder to bear.

"I thought my biggest blessing was God sending me my two daughters once my dad passed," he said. "Just for one of them to be gone now, it's tough."

Despite the tragedy, he remains determined to stay strong for his surviving child.

"It's going to be OK because I have to be, because I have another beautiful daughter that's inside," he said.

He is leaning on his spiritual beliefs to navigate the road ahead.

"God gives no challenges to people that can't handle it," Glasgow said.

According to the FOX Forecast Center, the afternoon storm was typical for Florida's summer weather patterns. Data from the National Lightning Safety Council indicates 12 people have died from lightning strikes in 2026, with strikes capable of impacting ground locations up to 10 miles away from a storm's center. Margate police confirmed their investigation into the incident remains active.
