Florida Lightning Strike Kills Mother and 2-Year-Old Daughter

A lightning strike killed 31-year-old Kenya Glasgow and her 2-year-old daughter, Kennedy Rose, on Sunday afternoon in a residential driveway along the 7900 block of Northwest 1st Street in Margate, Florida.

Emergency crews from the Margate Police Department and Margate Fire Rescue responded to a 911 call around 2:30 p.m. regarding two individuals found lying unconscious on the sidewalk. First responders immediately initiated CPR and other life-saving measures at the scene.

Glasgow was transported to North Broward Medical Center in Deerfield Beach, while her daughter was taken under police escort to Broward Health Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale. Authorities reported that both victims were pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the medical facilities.

The incident occurred as the family arrived for dinner at a relative's house during a rapidly developing summer thunderstorm. Data from AccuWeather showed hundreds of lightning strikes detected across the surrounding area within a brief window. The mother and child were stepping out of a Hyundai Tucson when the strike hit directly in the driveway. Her husband, Kameron Glasgow, and Kennedy's twin sister, Kensli, were standing just feet away at the time of the impact.

Following the tragedy, Kameron Glasgow shared his grief regarding the sudden loss of his family members.

"I just lost my best friend. My daughter just lost her best friend. After I lost my father a few years ago I learned a very valuable lesson and that’s to never question God," said Kameron Glasgow, Husband and Father.

"My babies didn’t suffer. I’m hurt we are hurt but if you gotten the chance to feel that beautiful light my wife and daughter brought into your life cherish it. It’s there for a reason.

It gives us all the blueprint to just love others and always remember it doesn’t take much to be kind."

Glasgow further reflected on the sudden loss and the impact on his surviving daughter.

"I’ll be ok because I have to be, because I have another beautiful daughter that’s inside there. But for her to lose her twin sister, words can’t describe that feeling because I know she can’t even fathom it right now. That she lost her best friend," said Kameron Glasgow, Husband and Father.

He recalled the moments immediately surrounding the strike and expressed his grief over their upcoming anniversary.

"We would’ve been four years married in November. This is extremely hard," said Kameron Glasgow, Husband and Father.

He also praised the character of his late wife and daughter.

"Worst feeling in the world, and to turn around and see your wife and your daughter there lifeless is even worse," said Kameron Glasgow, Husband and Father.

He emphasized the selflessness his wife demonstrated throughout her life.

"My wife, the biggest heart in the world, the biggest heart in the world, puts everybody before herself. Everybody. My daughter, my wife, amazing. Amazing people," said Kameron Glasgow, Husband and Father.

Neighbor Prince Moody, who witnessed the strike from across the street, described seeing a bright flash before stepping outside to assist.

"I heard this large lightning strike. I saw an orange glow through my window. My son said, "Dad, there's a lady on the floor.

She got hit." And I almost didn't wanna believe him, and I looked through my window and I saw a lady," said Prince Moody, Neighbor.

Moody provided immediate aid and contacted emergency services while trying to assist the family.

"Very traumatic scene," said Prince Moody, Neighbor.

He recounted his immediate efforts to manage the situation prior to the arrival of first responders.

"I offered aid as much as I could, calmed the family down, and I started praying. I called 911 immediately," said Prince Moody, Neighbor.

Moody expressed emotional distress over the scene unfolding in the neighborhood.

"It was very emotional to see two lifeless bodies on the ground," said Prince Moody, Neighbor.

He extended his support to the grieving husband and surviving child.

"The father who was there, now his daughter and his wife are there, and he can’t, you know, he’s not there mentally, so my heart goes out to them," said Prince Moody, Neighbor.

Moody noted the impact the incident had on bystanders who attempted to help.

"It’s not even about how I’m feeling. Like, I’m shaken up big time, but my heart and prayers are going [out] to them," said Prince Moody, Neighbor.

According to the National Weather Service in Miami, the two fatalities mark the third and fourth lightning-related deaths in Florida this year. The Margate Police Department stated that an investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
