John Paul Miller Faces Cyberstalking Trial Following Wifes Suicide

Former South Carolina pastor John-Paul Miller faces an October 2026 federal trial on cyberstalking charges following the April 2024 suicide of his 30-year-old estranged wife, Mica Miller, in Lumber River State Park in North Carolina.

Mica Miller died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound on April 27, 2024, after contacting emergency services to disclose her location. The Robeson County Sheriff's Office officially classified her death as a suicide, noting she had a documented history of bipolar disorder and dependent personality disorder.

Prior to her death, Mica Miller reached out to law enforcement at least 14 times and filed for a restraining order on March 11, 2024, detailing multiple incidents of tracking, tire damage, and harassment. Federal prosecutors charged the 47-year-old former Solid Rock Church pastor in December 2025 with cyberstalking and making false statements to FBI investigators, allegations to which he pleaded not guilty.

Court records show Mica Miller was involuntarily hospitalized for 48 hours in February 2024, after which her vehicle was taken by her husband under power of attorney claims. An affidavit from her father, Michael Francis, alleged that John-Paul Miller lied about her medical adherence and exaggerated her psychiatric condition.

Documentary filmmakers Julia Willoughby Nason and Mike Gasparro reflected on the case during the release of their series examining the event.

The directors emphasized their intention to highlight the personal accounts of those closest to her.

John-Paul Miller, who was relieved of his church duties and remarried in September 2025, remains free on bond in South Carolina pending his scheduled court appearance.
