Police Investigate Unsolved Shootings and Fatal Crash Across Region

Law enforcement agencies across Allegheny and Washington counties are investigating multiple violent incidents, including two separate shootings and a fatal rollover crash that occurred on August 24 and August 25, 2026.

In Pittsburgh's Knoxville neighborhood, officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 400 block of Brownsville Road around 8:25 p.m. on Tuesday, August 25. Police initially found no victim at the scene.

About 20 minutes later, a neighboring jurisdiction notified Pittsburgh police that they located a man suffering from a gunshot wound to the abdomen. EMS transported the victim in stable condition to a local hospital, but authorities noted the man was uncooperative and the primary crime scene remains unidentified.

In a separate incident on Monday, August 24, Allegheny County Police responded around 5:15 p.m. to a shooting in the 700 block of Grandview Avenue in East Pittsburgh. Responding officers discovered 21-year-old Cornell Harris inside a residence with a gunshot wound to the chest. Harris was pronounced dead after being transported to a hospital.

Investigators believe the shooting occurred inside the home, after which two individuals fled toward Franklin Street. Authorities are asking anyone with information to contact the county tip line at 833-255-8477.

Additionally, Washington County Coroner Tim Warco reported a fatal single-vehicle crash on Steubenville Pike in Hanover Township around 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 25. A car traveled off the roadway into a wooded area, ejecting the driver, who was pronounced dead. Officials suspect speed was a factor in the collision.

Meanwhile, in federal court, 49-year-old Turtle Creek resident Robert Bookshar was sentenced on Monday, August 24, to 20 years in federal prison followed by 10 years of supervised release. Bookshar, a former telecommunications officer for Allegheny County Emergency Services, pleaded guilty in March to charges related to the sexual exploitation of minors.

In West Mifflin, school administrators are holding three town hall meetings starting August 27 to address ongoing bus transportation delays caused by local construction on Lebanon Church Road.

"Krise is looking at route changes and other adjustments to reduce delays and keep buses on schedule," said Superintendent Jeffrey Soles, Superintendent of West Mifflin Area School District.
