CD Projekt Red Announces The Witcher 3 Remaster and New Expansion

Developer CD Projekt Red announced on August 25, 2026, at Gamescom Opening Night Live that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered will launch on September 29, 2026, alongside a teaser for a new expansion, Songs of the Past, arriving in 2027.

The remastered version brings sweeping visual and technical upgrades, including enhanced combat, improved traversal mechanics, revamped mount handling, enhanced monster behaviors, transmogrification, and a Cyberpunk 2077-style skill tree overhaul. The updated game will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, as well as launching natively on the Nintendo Switch 2 and Blizzard's Battle.net platform.

Existing owners of The Witcher 3 on qualifying platforms will receive Remastered as a free upgrade. Furthermore, all base game owners instantly gained free access to the two previously released expansions, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, starting August 25. On Xbox hardware, the release introduces Xbox Play Anywhere support bridging Xbox Series X|S and Xbox Ally, alongside AMD FSR 4.0 support on Xbox Ally X.

CD Projekt Red also offered a first look at the third paid expansion, Songs of the Past, which is being co-developed with Fool's Theory for a 2027 release. The DLC introduces the peaceful rural region of Letten, brand-new foes, and a chain weapon that allows protagonist Geralt of Rivia to pull enemies closer during combat. The expansion serves as Geralt's final chapter before the franchise shifts to Ciri in the upcoming sequel, The Witcher 4, slated for 2028.

At Gamescom ONL, level design lead Miles Tost introduced the new expansion features on stage during the live presentation.

"Remastered is a free upgrade for players who own The Witcher 3 on GOG, Steam, Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, and includes both Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine expansions. It is also available for pre-purchase on Battle.net and Nintendo Switch 2," stated CD Projekt Red in an official release statement.

CD Projekt Red noted that players purchasing Songs of the Past on Battle.net will unlock an exclusive Geralt-inspired skin in Diablo 4, with further details expected at BlizzCon in September.

"This full-fledged third expansion takes the White Wolf on a new adventure to the peaceful realm of Letten, where dark secrets lurk beneath the surface… Coming in 2027," stated CD Projekt Red in the official expansion trailer.

The studio is hosting guided gameplay demonstrations of both Remastered and Songs of the Past throughout Gamescom in Hall 8.1, alongside specialized REDstreams broadcasts on YouTube and Twitch.
