Rockstar Releases GTA 6 Extended Trailer on Netflix Ahead of November Launch

Rockstar Games will debut an extended trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6 exclusively on Netflix on August 27 before releasing it on YouTube six hours later. The trailer will premiere at 3 p.m. ET on Netflix and become available on YouTube at 9 p.m.

ET, offering fans a first detailed look at the game ahead of its November 19 release for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Netflix’s exclusivity window for the trailer lasts six hours, requiring viewers to have a subscription to watch it initially.

"It's a reflection of what we hope Netflix is becoming: a place where the most ambitious storytelling, from any medium, can find the biggest possible audience," said Brandon Riegg, Netflix Vice President.

The decision has drawn mixed reactions from gamers, with some criticizing it as a money grab and others indicating they will wait for the YouTube release. "Please don't subscribe to Netflix for this, y'all. Not worth it at all. Huge money grab from them and Rockstar," wrote one user on Reddit.

Rockstar Games has not publicly commented on the exclusivity deal. Gamescom 2026 opened in Cologne, Germany, amid expectations that GTA 6 will dominate industry conversations despite not being featured at the event.

Joost van Dreunen, a video game economics professor at New York University, noted the market is crowded, with some studios moving release dates to avoid clashing with GTA 6. Stefan Heikhause, Gamescom Brand Director, called GTA 6 and Red Dead Redemption 2 the "polar stars" of the gaming industry, setting technical standards and attracting global player attention. Gamescom organizers highlighted that the variety of games ensures that no single title fully dominates player attention despite major launches.

Since May 2025, GTA 6 has seen steady promotional activity, including new screenshots and gameplay leaks, building anticipation for the upcoming launch.
