Chicago White Sox Recall Jonathan Cannon as Huascar Brazoban Hits IL

The Chicago White Sox recalled right-handed pitcher Jonathan Cannon from Triple-A Charlotte on August 25, 2026, after placing reliever Huascar Brazoban on the 15-day injured list due to a left lat strain.

Brazoban suffered the injury during a relief appearance, leaving the White Sox with a heavily taxed pitching staff that has navigated 16 games in 16 days. The team acquired Brazoban from the New York Mets prior to the trade deadline.

Sox manager Will Venable initially described Brazoban's physical discomfort on the mound as a minor issue during an evaluate period before the team opted for the IL stint.

"A little left lat that just kind of cramped up on him a little bit," said Will Venable, White Sox manager. "It was just for one pitch, and he was kind of shaking his arm out a little bit. But he got evaluated, and he's throwing right now. All indications are that he’s fine."

Addressing the broader workload strain on the Chicago relief core, Venable emphasized the physical fatigue impacting the bullpen.

"These guys are running on fumes," said Will Venable, White Sox manager.

Cannon returned to the major league roster after tweaking his pitch selection in the minor leagues. He abandoned relying strictly on sinkers to implement a four-seam fastball that produced a higher strikeout rate over recent Triple-A starts.

"I didn’t throw my four-seam at all hardly in ‘24 when I came up, but it performed really well," said Jonathan Cannon, White Sox pitcher. "It was just what the hitters were telling us. The more I used it, the results were really good and were consistent.

I really feel the four-seam brings a lot more swing-and-miss into my arsenal. Especially if I’m pitching a little bit out of the bullpen here, that’s going to be very beneficial, and it sets up my other pitches a lot as well."

In other roster activity, former White Sox corner infielder Jake Burger returned to Chicago as a member of the visiting Texas Rangers.

"I love coming back to the city, and there’s a lot of fond memories in this ballpark," said Jake Burger, Texas Rangers infielder. "They have a good team, and these are always fun games when you’re playing a first-place team versus another first-place team."

Burger also reflected on his interactions with the local home crowd during games at his former home field.

"It’s always good fun," said Jake Burger, Texas Rangers infielder. "This is always a place where the fans are going to give it to you, no matter who you are."

Meanwhile, White Sox starter Davis Martin is scheduled for a rehab outing with Charlotte on Thursday. Outfielder Tristan Peters tied a franchise record by hitting a home run in five consecutive games on Wednesday night.
