Tristan Peters Drives Chicago White Sox to Victory Over New York Mets

Chicago White Sox outfielder Tristan Peters hit a walk-off home run on Sunday to secure a 2-1 victory over the New York Mets, marking the team's 11th walk-off win of the season.

White Sox closer Grant Taylor allowed a game-tying RBI single in the ninth inning before striking out Mets rookie A.J. Ewing to leave the bases loaded and set up the walk-off outcome.

Taylor noted his focus remained strictly on his physical mechanics while working through the high-pressure frame on the mound.

"While I’m on the mound, I’m just trying to get outs as quickly as possible," said Grant Taylor, White Sox closer. "But I knew once I came off it, my team had my back."

Taylor added that the team has demonstrated consistent resilience in tight late-game situations throughout the current campaign.

"It replicates playoff games pretty well, with how close they are," said Sam Antonacci, White Sox infielder. "Being able to have a bunch of those under our belt if we are fortunate enough to make the playoffs–that’s one of our goals–just hit the ground running."

In the following game, Peters continued his offensive surge by hitting a two-run homer to right field in the second inning to trim an early deficit against the Mets.

"It’s a little less stressful when we have a big lead, but we handle those stressful situations really well," said Tristan Peters, White Sox centerfielder.

The White Sox now hold a 68-62 record and maintain their position in first place in the American League Central division.

"I feel like we are never out of a game," said Hagen Smith, White Sox rookie left-hander.

Rookie pitcher Hagen Smith provided two scoreless relief innings after entering a seventh-inning jam with two runners on and no outs.

"Walk-offs mean good things happen," said Will Venable, White Sox manager. "Yet another example of these guys just continuing to battle. The fans and the support from the city and the environment that’s been created, makes these walk-off moments a little more special."

Chicago starting pitcher Sean Newcomb emphasized the squad's ongoing goal to maintain momentum across every series down the stretch.

"It shows what we’re all about," said Sean Newcomb, White Sox pitcher. "We just need to keep winning series. Whatever it takes."
