A development team of fan modders announced on August 25, 2026, that the massive Red Dead Redemption 2 Mexico expansion mod, titled Nuevo Paraiso: The Forgotten Frontier, will launch free on PC on September 16.

Lead modder Rixus724 and their development team spent years rebuilding the southern territory from the original 2010 Red Dead Redemption to integrate seamlessly into the 1907 epilogue timeline of the sequel.

The upcoming release addresses a long-standing desire among the community for single-player expansion content. Despite selling over 79 million copies, Rockstar Games provided no official story DLC for the title, focusing post-launch support on online modes and Grand Theft Auto VI.

The fan-made expansion features populated settlements, wild ambient nature, gang hideouts, train robberies, shops, and new mysteries set during the period of political unrest leading up to the 1911 Mexican Revolution.

Additionally, the project incorporates a playable story path centered on character Sadie Adler, following her narrative arc toward South America after the main story ends.

The creator detailed the environmental scope and technical direction of the project in a video announcement.

"Storm new gang hideouts, travel across Mexico by train, rob passing trains, visit local shops, participate in various events, uncover new mysteries, find Easter eggs, observe wildlife, and uncover secrets hidden throughout the state. Every corner offers something new as Nuevo Paraiso expands beyond its original borders," said Rixus724, modder.

The team tailored the visual presentation and lighting parameters to align directly with the base game's technical framework.

"recreated to fit seamlessly within the story and timeline of Red Dead Redemption 2 in 1907: Explore a Mexico on the brink of change, where beautiful landscapes and growing settlements stand alongside political unrest, government oppression, and a population struggling under an increasingly unstable regime," said Rixus724, modder.

The project assets build upon unused territory files discovered by dataminers within the original game files years prior.

"Discover new settlements, hidden locations, activities, encounters, mysteries, Easter eggs, wildlife, local people, classic characters, and dangers as you travel across the state," said Rixus724, modder.

The author emphasized the project's dedication to preserving the identity of the original title while expanding its overall scope.

"more than a journey across the border" and "an ambitious fan-made expansion created to bring Mexico back to life, while remaining faithful to the atmosphere, identity, and canon of Red Dead Redemption," said Rixus724, modder.

The modification will be available exclusively for PC users via Nexus Mods on September 16, requiring a legitimate copy of the base game. Official developer Rockstar Games has scheduled its separate Grand Theft Auto VI: Extended Showcase presentation for August 27, 2026.
