Gamescom Opening Night Live 2026 Showcases Major Video Game Releases
Host Geoff Keighley kicked off the two-hour Gamescom Opening Night Live showcase on August 25, 2026, presenting major video game announcements, trailers, and launch dates ahead of a busy fall release schedule for the gaming industry.
During the event's opening remarks, Keighley addressed recent industry challenges before highlighting upcoming titles.
"We've got a lot of great stuff for you today," said Geoff Keighley, Creator of The Game Awards.
He touched on video game layoffs and the memory crisis, which has hit the industry deeply, while remaining enthusiastic about the future of video games showcased throughout the night.
Publishers presented several major game reveals and release windows during the broadcast. CD Projekt Red confirmed its upcoming expansion for The Witcher 3, titled Songs of the Past, will launch in 2027, while joint CEO Michał Nowakowski targeted a 2028 release window for The Witcher 4. Xbox revealed a new story trailer for Gears of War: E-Day, confirming an October 6 launch.
Remedy scheduled Control Resonant for September 24, and Capcom set Onimusha: Way of the Sword for September 4 alongside an expanded demo. Additional titles including Metro 2039, Warlock: Dungeons & Dragons, Exodus, Game of Thrones: War for Westeros, and Rainbow Six Tactics announced release targets spanning through 2027.
Hardware and service updates were also highlighted during the event. Nvidia announced that its GeForce Now cloud gaming service will officially add support for Valve's Steam Controller and Steam Machine later this year, alongside upcoming upgrades for DLSS controls and expanded device availability on Fire TV Sticks.
