Bit Reactor and Respawn Release Star Wars Zero Company
Developers Bit Reactor and Respawn Entertainment, in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games and publisher Electronic Arts, launched Star Wars Zero Company on August 27, 2026. The turn-based tactical title released globally across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S platforms. Set around 20 BBY during the twilight of the Clone Wars, the game follows Hawks, a former Galactic Republic military captain dishonorably discharged after losing a unit.
Hawks forms a mercenary group known as Zero Company to operate along the fringes of the galactic underworld while attempting to clear financial debts owed to the Hutt cartel. The narrative kicks off when Republic Intelligence officer Bennic Halloren recruits the mercenary squad to investigate a Separatist-aligned cult called the Infinite Coil. Led by a mysterious figure named Fathom, the cult threatens to spread a mind-altering plague across the galaxy using biological organisms.
Gameplay mechanics combine isometric turn-based combat with tactical squad management. Players command a four-unit squad utilizing an Action Point system for movement, cover placement, and abilities. The title features interactive elements including environmental destruction, positional knockbacks, and a permadeath mechanic where units suffer permanent loss upon taking three injuries.
Between combat missions, operations center around a mobile base of operations called The Den. Players manage resources such as Credits, Capacitors, and Intel to research unit upgrades, acquire equipment, and conduct text-based dispatch operations to expand influence across the galaxy map. The roster includes specific narrative squad members alongside customizable generic operatives and support droids. Featured characters include Trick, a medically discharged clone trooper; Kabb, an alien brawler; Jae, a displaced miner; Cly, a Mandalorian seeking revenge; Tel-Rea, an AWOL Jedi Padawan; and Luco, a anti-Republic marksman.
Base interactions also feature non-combat crew members, including personnel manager Runa, medical droid M-3VO, and Lasat arms dealer Neesh. Character relationships evolve through mission pairings and choices during narrative dilemmas, unlocking passive combat perks and specialized squad abilities.
