Olivia Rodrigo Sells Out Exclusive Single at California Record Shop

Pop artist Olivia Rodrigo released an unreleased song titled 'Serena Joy' as an exclusive 500-copy physical CD single on August 21, 2026. The limited run sold out entirely on the same day at Analog Music Shop in Tustin, California.

The physical single provides a rare entry in Rodrigo's catalog due to its highly localized release model. Analog Music Shop, situated eight miles from the Great Park venue in Irvine, carried the initial physical batch ahead of Rodrigo's headline appearance at the Daisy Chain Fields festival on August 29.

Universal Music confirmed that the track originated from recording sessions for Rodrigo's third studio album, titled 'you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love,' which launched via Geffen Records on June 12, 2026. The song was omitted from the final album tracklist.

Rodrigo addressed the exclusion of the track prior to the surprise physical drop.

"I actually really love ['Serena Joy']. It didn’t fit on the album," said Olivia Rodrigo, singer.

She elaborated during the interview that the composition did not align with the narrative structure of the full-length project, expressing hope that the material would eventually surface elsewhere.

The single's thematic elements draw inspiration from the character Serena Joy Waterford in Margaret Atwood's novel The Handmaid's Tale. Packaging and printed lyrics accompanying the CD examine topics of complicity, silence, and social restraint.

Analog Music Shop secured exclusive distribution rights for three days prior to an expected wider digital roll-out. The physical distribution required fans to visit the brick-and-mortar storefront rather than purchasing through traditional direct-to-consumer digital portals.

The release precedes the inaugural Daisy Chain Fields festival organized by Rodrigo. Net proceeds from the female-led event, which features performers such as Chappell Roan, Doechii, Mitski, and special guest Stevie Nicks, will directly benefit nonprofit organizations supporting women and girls.
