Olivia Rodrigo Releases Serena Joy Single Ahead of Festival

Singer Olivia Rodrigo released her new protest-minded single "Serena Joy" to streaming platforms on August 24, 2026, following a limited physical launch ahead of her upcoming Daisy Chain Fields festival in Irvine, California.

The track initially debuted on August 21 as an exclusive physical release at Analog Music Shop in Tustin, California. All 500 limited-edition CD single copies sold out at the independent record store within hours.

Written alongside her longtime collaborator Dan Nigro during sessions for her third album, the non-album single draws its name from a character in Margaret Atwood's dystopian novel The Handmaid's Tale.

"Yeah it’s all for the cause, for the good of us all," Rodrigo sings in the opening lines of "Serena Joy," "and if you close your eyes, then it can’t be your fault."

The pop star expressed her excitement about the high-energy track on social media following its rollout.

"I love this song so much!!!!," said Rodrigo on Instagram.

Net proceeds from the single will support the Daisy Chain Fields Fund, which aids organizations such as Planned Parenthood and the Center for Reproductive Rights. The inaugural all-women festival takes place August 29 at Great Park and features performances by Bikini Kill, Stevie Nicks, Chappell Roan, and Rodrigo.

"I've had a dream of doing this festival for years and i am so ecstatic its finally coming true!!," said Rodrigo when the festival was announced.

The event brings artists together to support initiatives advancing rights for women and girls.

"Daisy Chain Fields features an all-women lineup and 100 percent of the net proceeds will go to charities dedicated to advancing and advocating for women and girls. The lineup is truly insane and full of my heroes and friends. I firmly believe that joy, community and music can be the drivers of meaningful change and I'm hopeful this festival will be just that. I absolutely cannot wait to scream and dance and sing with you guys."

Rodrigo is scheduled to perform "Serena Joy" live for the first time during the festival before launching her worldwide Unraveled Tour later this year.
