Netflix Releases The Whisper Man Thriller Based on Bestselling Novel

Netflix will release The Whisper Man on August 28, 2026, a psychological crime thriller based on Alex North's 2019 bestselling novel. The film stars Robert De Niro, Adam Scott, and Michelle Monaghan and is directed by James Ashcroft.

The story centers on Tom Kennedy, a crime writer whose eight-year-old son, Jake, is abducted. In desperation, Tom turns to his estranged father, Peter Wills, a retired detective who once apprehended a serial killer known as The Whisper Man.

The Whisper Man is a haunting urban legend tied to a chilling children's rhyme and the fear of a mysterious figure who approaches children through windows and doors, turning the safety of home into a source of terror.

Adam Scott leads as Tom Kennedy, exploring a darker emotional role, while Robert De Niro portrays Peter Wills, bringing gravitas to the retired detective connected to the original Whisper Man case.

Michelle Monaghan stars as Amanda Beck, supported by Hamish Linklater, Owen Teague, Aston Luca Porto, and Will Brill. The cast aims to heighten the film’s tense atmosphere surrounding the serial killer narrative.
