Netflix Releases Psychological Thriller Film The Whisper Man

Streaming service Netflix releases its original psychological thriller film 'The Whisper Man' globally on August 28, adapting Alex North's bestselling novel of the same name. The production features Robert De Niro, Adam Scott, and Michelle Monaghan in lead roles.

Directed by James Ashcroft from a screenplay by Ben Jacoby and Chase Palmer, the film follows widowed crime writer Tom Kennedy, played by Scott, whose eight-year-old son is abducted. Kennedy turns to his estranged father Pete Willis, portrayed by De Niro, a retired detective who previously helped capture a serial killer known as 'The Whisper Man.'

The central investigation deepens as Kennedy and Willis uncover parallels between the new kidnapping and the older case. Monaghan plays investigator Amanda Beck, while the supporting cast includes Michael Keaton, John Carroll Lynch, Hamish Linklater, Owen Teague, Acston Luca Porto, and Will Brill. Anthony and Joe Russo produced the feature through their AGBO banner alongside Angela Russo-Otstot, Michael Disco, and Kassee Whiting.

Musician Ford noted the intense public attention during production activities.

"People were asking for pictures, autographs, handshakes, just about anything," said Ford. "There were cars pulling out of the line of traffic to get out and take pictures with me as well."

Guitarist J Mascis opens the track 'Blowin' Up' from Dinosaur Jr.'s new release with a direct lyric addressing personal boundaries.

"You′re about as dumb as they come / And telling stupid stories every day / Someone who loves you should speak up / And tell you to mind your own teacup before breaking mine," said Mascis.

The release anchors a broader lineup of late-August streaming options, including new musical releases from Alabama Shakes, Mike D 5D, Velocity Girl, and Dinosaur Jr., alongside video game debuts such as Electronic Arts' 'Star Wars Zero Company' and Asobo Studio's 'Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy.'
