Paramount Develops How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days Sequel
Paramount Pictures is developing a feature follow-up to the 2003 romantic comedy classic How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, with Kate Hudson and Stacey Sher attached to produce, according to multiple outlets.
Filmmakers are reportedly planning for both Hudson and Matthew McConaughey to reprise their respective roles as magazine writer Andie and ad executive Ben, though no formal confirmation regarding the plot or complete cast has been released.
Reflecting on the original production process, Hudson revealed she initially had to advocate strongly to secure McConaughey as her co-star.
"We just kept hitting our heads against the wall," she stated during a BAFTA Life In Pictures talk, according to Variety, "and the studio and I weren't agreeing."
Hudson explained that their dynamic on screen relied on a competitive energy and athletic drive.
"We had an energy together, I wanted to play with him," she added. "It felt kinetic. We both have a competitive spirit, we're both super athletic.
We like to push each other and I just love Matthew's commitment to everything; he's razor-focused. What you think he is, is."
McConaughey has previously noted that the original film remains a major financial success for his career.
"How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days is the gift that keeps on giving," he told Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast. "I think it's probably my favorite romcom I've done. A lot of people love that romcom."
The actor added that the movie continues to provide significant ongoing financial returns.
"It still pays the best mailbox money of any film I've ever done," he stated. "Every March I'd get a big check because Valentine's Day."
Hudson expressed similar appreciation for the film's enduring popularity with new audiences.
"How to Lose a Guy feels like a classic at this point," she told Harper's Bazaar. "New generations keep finding it. It's really nice to be in a movie that's like that."
