Honolulu Police Investigate Death of Flight Attendant in Hawaii

Honolulu police have initiated an unattended death investigation after 50-year-old Southwest Airlines flight attendant Jenny Lupton died from an apparent balcony fall at a Waikiki hotel during a layover in Hawaii.

Authorities were notified after hotel staff discovered Lupton's body near a dumpster outside the Hilton Hawaiian Village. Officials with the Honolulu Department of the Medical Examiner reported that the victim fell from her 24th-floor room balcony, though final determinations regarding the exact cause and manner of death remain pending examination.

The Oklahoma native had worked for Southwest Airlines for 29 years and was staying in Honolulu for work before planning a multi-day stay. Family members expressed skepticism regarding a fall by suicide and requested a full inquiry, prompting Oklahoma Attorney General Gentner Drummond to contact Hawaii Attorney General Anne E. Lopez to ensure a thorough investigation.

Lupton's family recalled her love for travel and her enthusiasm during her stay prior to the incident.

"It doesn’t feel real," said Tresa Lupton, sister of the victim.

Her family noted that Lupton had been out dancing with a colleague and had recently gotten a tattoo prior to her death.

"She just went out with one of her flight attendant friends, and they danced and had a good time," said Tresa Lupton, sister of the victim. "She had gotten a tattoo while she was there."

Family members had frequently traveled with Lupton and noted her extensive familiarity with the region.

"We got to travel together, travel to San Diego, Colorado several times," said Hannah Lupton, niece of the victim. "She was very well versed in Hawaii; she loved Hawaii and had gone multiple times."

Lupton's sisters are traveling to Honolulu to meet with local authorities and review available security evidence near the hotel premises.

"See for ourselves how this all went down," said Tresa Lupton, sister of the victim. "The timeline doesn’t make sense, and we are afraid that maybe there was foul play,"

Hotel security management informed the family that investigators are reviewing footage from over 70 security cameras located around the area. Honolulu Police Department spokeswoman Noreen Reimel stated that detailed case information is not publicly releasable while the investigation remains active.

Southwest Airlines confirmed the loss of their long-time employee and issued an official statement regarding the ongoing inquiry.

"The Southwest Airlines family is deeply saddened by the passing of our colleague during a layover in Hawaii. We have offered our condolences and support to the Employee’s family and co-workers and are engaged with local authorities as they investigate," said Southwest Airlines, airline company.

The medical examiner's office indicated that complete findings from the forensic examination could take up to several months depending on additional required testing.
