Barcelona Defeats Elche 5-0 in La Liga Opener

Raphinha opened the scoring from the penalty spot after drawing a foul from Victor Chust. Karim Adeyemi then doubled the advantage in first-half stoppage time, converting an action orchestrated by Lamine Yamal and Raphinha.

Barcelona expanded its lead significantly in the second half. Summer signing Anthony Gordon provided a pair of assists, setting up Raphinha's second goal in the 67th minute and Fermin Lopez's first strike four minutes later.

In other La Liga action, Atletico Madrid settled for a 2-2 draw against Villarreal at the Metropolitano Stadium. Julian Alvarez entered as a 67th-minute substitute amid fan dissatisfaction over his request to leave the club, before Giuliano Simeone scored an 85th-minute equalizer for Atletico.

Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone addressed the club's post-match handling of Alvarez, who exited directly to the locker room alone.

"People at the club were telling me that the club decided he shouldn't go near the fans with his teammates to greet them, and that the decision was not Julian Alvarez's but the club's, to separate him so he would go to the dressing room," said Simeone, Manager of Atletico Madrid. "If Atletico de Madrid wants to win any title, we need to be together, we need to have forwards, and we need to have important forwards."

Simeone firmly closed the discussion regarding the striker when pressed further by journalists.
