Andreeva and Rublev Reach US Open Mixed Doubles Semifinals
Tennis stars Mirra Andreeva and Andrey Rublev advanced to the semifinals of the US Open mixed doubles tournament after securing a 4-1, 4-5, 10-5 victory over Diana Shnaider and Casper Ruud on August 25, 2026, at Arthur Ashe Stadium in Flushing Meadows.
The Russian duo overcame a tough path to reach the final four, having previously saved a match point in a tense opening-round tiebreak against two-time defending champions Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori. Their quarterfinal victory set up a clash against Czech pair Jakub Mensik and Karolina Muchova.
The current tournament field skews heavily toward singles stars, featuring top competitors such as French Open champion Andreeva and Tokyo Olympic mixed doubles gold medalist Rublev. Meanwhile, the first two rounds saw major upsets, including the elimination of top seeds Novak Djokovic and Aryna Sabalenka, as well as the quarterfinal exit of Carlos Alcaraz and Serena Williams against Belinda Bencic and Flavio Cobolli.
Speaking on court following their quarterfinal victory, the 19-year-old Andreeva evaluated their performance during the match.
"The first set we played great, and we were just unlucky a couple of times," said Andreeva.
She praised her partner for stepping up during crucial moments of the match tiebreak.
"I just had so much fun playing with Andrey," Andreeva continued. "I think we played great today. I am so happy that he took the initiative at the end of the tiebreak, as I was super stressed and he hit so many great shots.
Thanks to him for leading the doubles today. I am super happy with the win."
Andreeva also reflected on the unique dynamic of pairing up with her long-time favorite player on the tour.
"I have never said anything or told him anything, but I used to have a little crush on him as well!" Andreeva added. "It's like a dream come true to play with my favourite player!"
Rublev offered high praise for Andreeva's contributions at the net and defensive resilience throughout the contest.
"First of all, I'm very lucky to have Mirra because today she played unbelievable," stated Rublev.
He noted that her performance made his role on the court much simpler despite a few errors of his own.
"She won all the most important points, she was amazing at the net. They were hitting her and she was defending, all the ball bringing back, playing amazing winners," Rublev said. "When you have a partner like this, the easiest job you can do is don't miss and I was able to miss anyway. But we played really great and I'm happy to be part of this."
The winner of the semifinal between Andreeva and Rublev and the Czech team of Mensik and Muchova will face either Elina Svitolina and Gael Monfils or Bencic and Cobolli in the final, ahead of the US Open singles main draw starting August 30.
