Bencic and Cobolli Reach US Open Mixed Doubles Final

Belinda Bencic and Flavio Cobolli advanced to the US Open mixed doubles championship match on Wednesday night after defeating the husband-and-wife duo of Elina Svitolina and Gael Monfils 4-5 (7), 4-1, 1-0 at Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York.

The victory extended the undefeated record of Bencic and Cobolli to seven matches since they first teamed up in December. After dropping the opening set in a tight tiebreaker, the duo responded by capturing 12 consecutive points to dominate the second set 4-1 before clinching the decisive 10-point tiebreaker 10-5.

Svitolina and Monfils secured the first set 5-4 (7) after Cobolli committed a double fault on set point, capping a comeback from a 4-0 deficit. Monfils was competing in his 18th and final US Open appearance.

Speaking about pairing up with his wife for the tournament, Monfils reflected on their rare team effort on the court.

"The first time and the last time," said Monfils.

The tournament features a overall top prize of $1 million for the winning pair, while the runners-up will split $500,000. Losing semifinalists receive $250,000, and quarterfinal teams earned $120,000.

Bencic and Cobolli will face the winner of the second semifinal match between Karolina Muchova and Jakub Mensik against Mirra Andreeva and Andrey Rublev in the championship final.
