Amazon MGM Nears Final Stage of Casting Next James Bond Actor
Amazon MGM Studios and producers are entering the final stages of casting to select the next actor to portray James Bond, marking a major reboot for the iconic 007 franchise following Daniel Craig's final appearance in 2021's No Time to Die.
Industry insider Daniel Richtman reported that the audition process has progressed to its concluding phase as creative leaders evaluate top contenders.
"I hear they’re in the final round of casting for James Bond and might have already found their guy," said Daniel Richtman, industry insider.
Reports earlier this year indicated that director Denis Villeneuve and producers Amy Pascal and David Heyman began notifying shortlisted actors to move forward with formal screen tests. Pascal indicated that the selection is being conducted with extreme care to reshape the legendary secret agent.
"I would say the end of the year is a good bet. We are being really, really methodical," said Amy Pascal, film producer.
She emphasized the high expectations surrounding the franchise's new era under Amazon MGM Studios control.
"Daniel Craig is a hard act to follow. And it’s got to be something really different that is stirring and exciting and different," said Amy Pascal, film producer.
Several actors have emerged as frontrunners in industry discussions, including Callum Turner, Jack Lowden, Jacob Elordi, Harris Dickinson, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson. Television presenter Richard Osman previously noted on a podcast that Lowden was under strong consideration for the role.
"The name I’ve heard is Jack Lowden," said Richard Osman, television presenter.
He expanded on the casting details surrounding the Slow Horses actor.
"It is definitely not a ‘he’s definitely got it’ thing. He is definitely being strongly considered. I think he’d be amazing," said Richard Osman, television presenter.
Amazon MGM leadership maintained that the studio is prioritizing long-term vision over speed, taking time to honor the character's legacy.
“I know you’re all wondering when we’re going to announce who’s playing James Bond. Don’t get too excited. Please know that we’re taking the time to do this with care and deep respect. It is the dream of a lifetime for all of us to bring audiences this next chapter, and it’s a responsibility we don’t take lightly,” said Courtenay Valenti, Amazon MGM Head of Film.
While fans await the 26th Bond feature film, Ian Fleming Publications expands the franchise literary timeline. Author Charlie Higson penned his first adult 007 novel titled King Zero, scheduled for release on September 24, 2026.
"It's very exciting. It is very hard to get people excited about books, so when the publisher goes to this level of effort, it says a lot. There I finally am after over 20 years of toiling in the world of writing James Bond!
My first big, full-length Bond novel is coming out, and it's really exciting to be part of the world of James Bond. It's something special," said Charlie Higson, author.
Meanwhile, independent spy entertainment continues to draw inspiration from the iconic franchise. Saban Films slated the digital action thriller Knightfall for release on September 11, 2027, starring Geoffrey Moore, the son of former 007 actor Roger Moore.
