Hit-and-Run Driver Kills Woman in Manhattan West Village

New York City police have identified a 22-year-old woman who died after being struck by a hit-and-run driver in Manhattan's West Village early Saturday morning, according to the NYPD.

Destiny Murrell of Brooklyn was walking westbound in the south crosswalk near 6th Avenue and West Washington Place shortly before 6:00 a.m. when an unidentified gray vehicle struck her, according to police sources.

The impact left Murrell with severe head trauma, as reported by the NYPD. Emergency Medical Services rushed the victim to Bellevue Hospital, where medical staff pronounced her dead, according to police officials.

Following the collision, the driver fled the scene northbound on 6th Avenue before turning westbound onto Waverly Place, according to police reports. No arrests have been made in connection with the fatal incident.
