Warriors Sign Brandon Williams to One-Year Contract for 2026 Season

The Golden State Warriors have agreed to a one-year contract with free agent point guard Brandon Williams for the 2026 NBA season, according to agents Derek Lafayette and Curtis Lawrence as reported by ESPN’s Shams Charania.

Williams played 74 games over three seasons with the Portland Trail Blazers and Dallas Mavericks from 2021 to 2025. Last season, with the Mavericks, he averaged 13.0 points, 3.9 assists, and 2.9 rebounds in 22.2 minutes per game across 66 regular season appearances, including 15 starts.

Williams showcased effective scoring inside the arc, shooting 55.2% on two-point attempts and 79.3% from the free-throw line. However, his three-point shooting remains a weakness, with a 23.2% conversion rate on 155 attempts last season.

Williams was one of the top free agents still available this summer, ranked No. 49 on a list of the top 50 free agents. The Warriors had 12 players on fully guaranteed contracts for the 2026/27 season before signing Williams, who is expected to fill the team's 14th roster spot.

Golden State’s general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. indicated the team plans to carry a full 15-man roster, especially since key players Jimmy Butler and Moses Moody are expected to miss time due to injuries sustained last season.

Sports analyst Joey from Bleacher Report highlighted Williams as the best point guard remaining on the free-agent market and suggested the Warriors should add him for depth at the position. Joey noted Williams’ lack of three-point shooting might complicate lineups with Draymond Green, but sees potential for Williams to have a breakout season.

Joey also recommended roster adjustments involving two-way contracts, suggesting the Warriors release Malevy Leons to sign Graham Ike and Lajae Jones, creating a stronger two-way player group alongside LJ Cryer.

For the final roster spot, Joey favored signing forward Georges Niang over Kelly Olynyk, citing Niang’s versatility and the team’s current depth at the center position.
