Santa Fe Prepares Arts Procession and Expands Local Soul Food Dining

Theater Grottesco and local artists announced the Inaugural First Annual Santa Fe Artists' Procession set for October 10, 2026, at 2 p.m. along the Santa Fe River Greenway. The event coincides with new developments in the local dining scene, including the opening of Anthony's Soul Café on St. Michael's Drive by restaurateur James Anthony Moore.

The upcoming procession pays homage to America's 250th anniversary, the 100th anniversary of Gustave Baumann's 1926 Fiesta Parade, and Theater Grottesco's 30th anniversary in Santa Fe. The procession route spans the path between Romero Park and Reunity Farm in the Village of Agua Fria. Participating artists will present three-dimensional art, music, theater, and puppetry using non-motorized art carts or walking performances, supported by artist stipends.

The event will culminate at Reunity Farm with food and additional performances. Theater Grottesco, founded in Paris in 1983, organized the initiative in partnership with Santa Fe City and County organizations to foster community engagement across New Mexico.

Alongside cultural developments, Santa Fe's culinary offerings have expanded with Anthony's Soul Café, located at 1620 St. Michael's Drive in the former Annapurna World Vegetarian Café space. Moore established the concept following the success of his Midtown takeout eatery, Anthony's Grill, which opened in 2021.

The menu features traditional comfort items such as fried chicken combo plates, BBQ brisket, waffles, collard greens, and red beans and rice, alongside live instrumental music performances.

The procession organizers are currently accepting artist applications, volunteer sign-ups for fabrication and crowd support, and project donations ahead of the October event.
