Philadelphia Phillies Adjust Brandon Marsh Role Ahead of Mariners Series

The Philadelphia Phillies announced a change in All-Star Brandon Marsh’s role ahead of their series against the Seattle Mariners starting Monday.

Following a nine-game winning streak and a weekend sweep of the St. Louis Cardinals, the Phillies will face the Mariners with ace Zack Wheeler pitching against right-hander Logan Gilbert.

Marsh, who had been moved to the cleanup spot during Sunday’s 6-4 victory over the Cardinals, will bat seventh in the lineup Monday as Alec Bohm, Bryson Stott, and Luis Arraez return to the starting lineup, according to Don Mattingly, the Phillies' interim manager.

Brandon Marsh is having a career-best season in his sixth MLB year. He earned his first All-Star selection and is batting .277 with 66 runs, 125 hits, 17 home runs, and 55 RBIs through 125 games, as reported by heavy.com.

Earlier in the weekend, Marsh was placed in a platoon role against left-handed pitchers despite his strong overall performance. On Friday, he recorded two hits but did not start against left-handed St. Louis pitcher Quinn Mathews. Bryan De La Cruz started in left field instead, while Derek Hill and Bryce Harper took center and right field respectively, as per sports.yahoo.com.

Philadelphia currently holds a 73-58 record, trailing the Atlanta Braves by 3.0 games in the National League East division. They would qualify as the second Wild Card team, set to face the Chicago Cubs in a best-of-three Wild Card Series if the season ended today.
