Pakistan Mediation Hopes Push ICE Brent Crude Down to 89 Dollars

Pakistani mediation efforts between global powers and Iran eased energy market tension on Tuesday, pushing ICE Brent crude prices down to $89 per barrel despite growing sanctions pressure from Washington.

The market pullback occurred as oil traders banked on a potential negotiated settlement, neutralizing bullish momentum generated after US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced escalating economic measures against Tehran. The White House threatened to sanction all commercial partners of Iran unless they wind down bilateral trade.

The diplomatic push coincides with a sharp reduction in Iranian crude exports caused by an ongoing US maritime blockade in the Gulf of Oman. Tehran's August crude shipments dropped to approximately 0.3 million barrels per day, down significantly from the 2025 average of 1.7 million barrels per day, with only one confirmed loading recorded at Kharg Island.

Chinese refiners are drawing down existing inventories, importing around 800,000 barrels per day due to June and July evacuation volumes. If the US naval blockade persists, analysts warn Chinese buyers could run out of Iranian crude options by October, driving Iranian Light crude to a $4 per barrel premium over ICE Brent.

Iranian floating storage outside the Persian Gulf has decreased by 7 million barrels since early August, leaving just 24 million barrels available as Chinese buyers absorb remaining stocks.

Concurrently, Iranian authorities threatened fines, vessel seizures, and cargo detentions against 45 tankers attempting dark transits through the Strait of Hormuz. Traffic through the critical maritime choke point collapsed to just two commodity vessels on Monday, down from a 10-day daily average of 14 ships.
