US Secret Service Investigates Iranian Threat Against Barron Trump

The US Secret Service is investigating a video aired on Iranian state television that discusses a purported plot to assassinate Barron Trump, the youngest son of former President Donald Trump, who is 20 years old, according to a spokesperson.

"The US Secret Service is aware of the video and investigates anything that can be perceived as a threat toward our protectees. Out of concern for operational security, we do not discuss matters of protective intelligence," Nate Herring, a Secret Service spokesperson, said in an email to Reuters.

Donald Trump has previously stated he is "number one on the kill list for Iran." Meanwhile, Iran declared that the Strait of Hormuz remains closed despite agreeing with Oman on a temporary transit route through the critical waterway.

Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi said, "The understanding between Iran and Oman does not mean the opening of the Strait of Hormuz." He added that the agreed route includes entry and part of the exit passing through Iranian territorial waters, which implies maintaining closure of the southern route in the Strait.

Trump has threatened new strikes on Iranian nuclear sites and military ships in the Strait of Hormuz amid these tensions.

In a separate development, Iran’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, Gholamhossein Darzi, urged the UN Security Council and member states to reject unilateral US sanctions, describing them as a violation of international law and a tool to pressure sovereign policies.

"The US weaponizes trade, energy, and food access," Darzi said, reaffirming Iran’s right to respond to economic and maritime pressures.

Shipping data reveals that two supertankers carrying 4 million barrels of Saudi crude are headed to China after loading cargo via ship-to-ship transfers off Oman. This maneuver circumvents the volatile Strait of Hormuz amid ongoing conflict disruptions in the region.

Iran’s top security official, Major General Mohsen Rezaei, declared the US will have no future presence in the region during a meeting in Tehran with Iraq’s judicial head. Rezaei also expressed support for a strong, independent Iraq and called for resolution of anti-Iranian armed groups along the border.

Iranian parliamentary speaker Mohammad-Baqer Qalibaf mocked US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent over inconsistent statements about sanctions targeting Iran’s economy, ridiculing Bessent’s remarks on social media.

Asian stock markets rose as oil prices fell on hopes of more oil flowing through the Strait of Hormuz, though Iran reiterated the strait remains closed until its conditions are met.

China warned that expanded US sanctions targeting Iran-linked entities, including some based in China, should not disrupt its cooperation with Tehran. China is a major trading partner and buyer of Iranian oil. The US Treasury recently sanctioned nearly 60 Iran-linked entities, including several in China, but stopped short of secondary sanctions on countries trading with Iran.
