Documentary NAZA Secures Premier Spot at Venice Film Festival

A new Guardian-produced documentary titled NAZA, directed by Oscar-winning filmmakers Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor, will mark its world premiere in competition for the prestigious Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival.

The film examines Israel's military actions and bombing campaign in Gaza. It is the sole documentary competing for the top prize at Venice this year, produced alongside Jim Wilson and executive producer Jonathan Glazer of The Zone of Interest.

Abraham and Szor previously co-directed the 2025 Academy Award-winning documentary No Other Land alongside filmmakers Basel Adra and Hamdan Ballal. Their latest investigation centers on targeting systems and military decisions.

"Shot at night on the rooftops of Tel Aviv, the film reveals in detail the systems behind Israel’s calculated mass killing of Palestinian civilians in Gaza," said the filmmakers in an official statement.

According to a statement from the Guardian, the title NAZA refers to an Israeli military acronym utilized euphemistically by intelligence personnel to project estimated civilian casualties prior to an airstrike. The investigative project builds on joint reporting conducted between 2023 and 2025 by the Guardian, +972 Magazine, and Local Call.
