Circulating air within these bends causes rising motion that forms storm systems, including a current low-pressure system northeast of Michigan that has created overcast skies in the Thumb and northern areas.

Forecasters are also monitoring improvements in meteorology through AI-powered models, such as Google's DeepMind system, which demonstrate superior accuracy over traditional physical models when predicting hurricane tracks five to six days out.

The upcoming storms follow scattered weekend rainfall across the state, where localized downpours delivered nearly two inches of rain to areas like Howell and Reese while leaving nearby Bloomfield completely dry.
