Kit Harington Joins Harry Potter Series as Gilderoy Lockhart
Actor Kit Harington has been cast as Professor Gilderoy Lockhart for the second season of HBO Max's upcoming 'Harry Potter' television series, replacing Nicholas Hoult in the fan-favorite role. Reports indicate that Hoult withdrew from the production due to scheduling conflicts, particularly with his role in the Hulu and Disney+ comedy series 'Mosquito'. The recast sees Harington return to HBO following his previous major roles in 'Game of Thrones' and the drama series 'Industry'.
The expansive ensemble cast for the reboot includes Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley.
Additional cast members include John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid, and Bertie Carvel as Cornelius Fudge. HBO Max plans to adapt each book in J.K. Rowling's original series into a full season, beginning with 'Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone' for its initial run.
