Judge Schedules Hearing Over Bill Cosby Assets in $59M Lawsuit

A California judge ordered Bill Cosby or his legal representatives on Tuesday to appear in court in September to address questions regarding his assets, as a sexual assault victim attempts to collect a $59 million civil judgment.

The order follows a civil jury ruling in March that found the 89-year-old comedian liable for drugging and sexually assaulting Donna Motsinger, a former Sausalito restaurant waitress, following a 1972 comedy show. Motsinger's legal team filed court documents revealing that Cosby has not paid any portion of the awarded damages.

Bank records cited in the court filings raised concerns that Cosby and his family have strategically moved assets to prevent the collection of the unpaid judgment.

"Cosby has paid none of the judgment, while showing a clear record of liquidating assets and then immediately dissipating the proceeds," Ms. Motsinger's lawyers wrote in court papers.

Lawyers representing Motsinger requested Judge Bradley S. Phillips to expedite the proceedings originally scheduled for January in Los Angeles Superior Court due to ongoing financial transactions. Cosby's legal team did not respond to requests for comment regarding the expedited hearing.

Cosby has consistently maintained that all sexual contact was consensual and has lodged an appeal against the trial verdict.
