Gunman Shoots Customer and Robs Bronx Deli
A gunman shot a 33-year-old customer before robbing a deli in the Melrose section of the Bronx early Tuesday, according to the New York City Police Department.
The incident occurred just after 12:15 a.m. at 149 Grill and Deli, located on East 149th Street near Walton Avenue. Surveillance camera footage shows the suspect passing one customer before confronting the victim, who appeared to be zipping up a backpack.
The shooter fired at the victim, striking him in the right arm and chest, before grabbing the man's bag and moving behind the counter. Store employees ducked for cover as additional shots were fired during the robbery.
The gunman then stole an undisclosed amount of cash from the register and fled eastbound on East 149th Street. Emergency responders rushed the wounded customer to NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln, where officials expect him to survive.
Police described the suspect as wearing a red or maroon hooded sweatshirt, gray sweatpants, and white sneakers. Detectives are currently investigating whether the victim was specifically targeted, and no arrests have been made.
