Giants Place Adrian Houser on IL, Call Up Braxton Roxby

Adrian Houser left the Giants 3-1 win over the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday after 1.1 innings and 26 pitches, with the team placing him on the 15-Day Injured List for a right forearm strain. San Francisco recalled right-handed reliever Braxton Roxby from Triple-A Sacramento to replace him.

Houser, a 10-year veteran in his first season with the Giants, was pulled after his right arm felt tight following his final pitch to Hector Rodriguez, a 93.9-mph fastball, and the team planned an MRI. The removal came about a day after left-hander Carson Whisenhunt left a start with elbow discomfort and later required Tommy John surgery after a torn UCL.

Roxby, 27, was acquired from the Reds in the Taylor Rogers trade before the 2025 season and will enter with a 4.11 ERA for Triple-A Sacramento this season. Giants coverage also noted opponents are batting .205 against him at Sacramento, where he has been used as a reliever.

Tony Vitello said, "He's throwing the ball well." Vitello also said, "The big thing for us is he can provide length if we need it."

Vitello added that the club is working through a pitching shortage created by trades and injuries and is mapping next steps for Monday’s game at Atlanta.

Vitello said, "I like the way he attacks with his fastball, and he's a good athlete too." Vitello also said, "We'll fill a need because we've been talking so much about this stretch we have – we're now to the point where we got to start mapping out what's going to happen on Monday (at Atlanta)."

As the Giants navigated multiple injuries, they had traded four pitchers since the start of the month and lost Whisenhunt, Trevor McDonald, Keaton Winn, and JT Brubaker to injuries. For Wednesday’s series finale in Cincinnati, San Francisco scheduled Logan Webb to start and planned for the bullpen and rotation to be reshaped by the recent IL moves.
