Dodgers Activate Tyler Glasnow for Braves Series Opener

The Los Angeles Dodgers will carry a six-game winning streak into their series against the Atlanta Braves, with Tyler Glasnow returning from the injured list to start the opener at Truist Park. Los Angeles also announced lineup and roster moves ahead of the Tuesday night matchup.

According to sports.yahoo.com, Glasnow was activated off the IL before the series and set for the first game against Atlanta. mlbtraderumors.com said the Dodgers filled their 40-man roster spot with the activation and moved Paul Gervase off the active roster.

The Dodgers optioned right-handed pitcher Paul Gervase to Triple-A Oklahoma City to make room for Glasnow, sports.yahoo.com reported. The team made the move after needing space on its roster for the right-hander’s return.

In the transaction reported by sports.yahoo.com, the Dodgers cleared the roster spot by optioning Gervase. It also noted Gervase had been recalled on Aug. 21, but did not pitch before being optioned again on Tuesday.

At the major league level, Gervase logged 7.2 innings in relief with a 2.35 ERA across four appearances, sports.yahoo.com reported. The same source said he recorded eight strikeouts, five walks, and a 1.57 WHIP.

With Oklahoma City, Gervase posted a 2-0 record and a 4.86 ERA over 37 innings in 31 games, sports.yahoo.com said. He totaled 46 strikeouts and 31 walks in Triple-A action.

Glasnow’s return follows a back injury that sidelined him since May, sports.yahoo.com reported, and mlbtraderumors.com said he had been on the 60-day IL since June. It added that he worked back in rehab, including 77 pitches in his final Triple-A start.

mlbtraderumors.com said Glasnow threw 5 1/3 innings in his final rehab start, allowing one earned run on one hit while striking out nine. It also reported that he made two prior outings in the minors where he tallied strikeouts across 11 2/3 frames with the Comets.

Sports.yahoo.com reported the Dodgers’ series-opening lineup includes an Alex Call decision, with Call batting 7th and playing left field in the opener. The same source said Teoscar Hernandez was on the bench and that the Braves started RHP Bryce Elder, making it not a platoon matchup.

According to sports.yahoo.com, Call has played 69 games with the Dodgers this season, mostly as a platoon or defensive replacement. It said that over 131 at-bats, Call is batting .252 with 1 home run, 17 RBI, 21 runs scored, and an OPS+ of 93.
