Debbie Storm Clark Dies at 61 in Boston Home

Debbie Clark, the American Gladiators performer known as "Storm," died at 61 at her home in Boston on Monday, according to family members speaking to TMZ. Her son said paramedics attempted to resuscitate her after her pacemaker stopped working.

Clark, a regular on the show from 1991 to 1993, competed in events including Powerball and Joust. She retired after a serious ACL injury, and the franchise later said she faced significant challenges in her personal life.

Her brother, Steven, told TMZ that Clark died Monday at her home in Boston and that she had a pacemaker that "gave out" while her family was home.

"Her brother, Steven, tells TMZ ... Debbie died Monday at her home in Boston. She had a pacemaker, and it gave out. Family was home at the time," said TMZ, according to TMZ.

Clark’s son, Crayton, said her pacemaker stopped working due to her overworking herself, and that she died in his arms while they waited for paramedics to arrive, as first responders tried to resuscitate her.

"He was living in the same apartment complex as Debbie, so that he could spend time with her and take care of her," said TMZ, according to TMZ.

Crayton believes Clark died from cardiac arrest and said he launched a GoFundMe campaign to help spread her ashes with her mother. The American Gladiators franchise posted a tribute on its official Facebook account calling her an exceptional athlete before she became a Gladiator.

The show said Clark joined American Gladiators in 1991 after the competitor Gold suffered an injury. Producers gave her the Storm nickname after telling her she had "blown them all away," and she established herself as a star in Powerball and Joust.

After leaving the show, Clark reportedly faced periods of homelessness. In 2011, television host Sherri Shepherd helped pay her rent for six months, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.
