Milwaukee Brewers Beat New York Mets 8-1 as Dustin May Exits Early

The Milwaukee Brewers defeated the New York Mets 8-1 on Wednesday night, despite starting pitcher Dustin May exiting after just one pitch due to a right scapula contusion. The injury occurred when Mets outfielder A.J. Ewing hit a 106-mph line drive directly at him.

May attempted to throw warmup pitches following the impact, but Milwaukee manager Pat Murphy removed him before the next batter. Initial X-rays came back negative, confirming a bruised shoulder blade rather than structural damage.

"Probably could have finished that inning, but better safe than sorry not trying to push through it," said Dustin May, Pitcher.

The right-hander discussed his condition and recovery process after leaving the contest early.

"Right now I feel OK, it's just a bruise," said Dustin May, Pitcher.

"No damage or anything structurally, so that's good. Just got to come in tomorrow and see how I feel," said Dustin May, Pitcher.

Reliever Robert Gasser stepped in on short notice to replace May, delivering 5 1/3 innings while allowing one run on six hits. Gasser struck out six batters and earned the win, while Grant Anderson and Bryse Wilson combined for 3 1/3 scoreless relief innings to seal the victory.

Milwaukee's offense took control in the second inning by stringing together six consecutive singles against Mets pitcher Robert Stock to build a 4-0 lead. Brice Turang later extended the margin in the fourth inning with a three-run home run to right-center field.

Sal Frelick added three hits and two RBIs in his return from injury, helping Milwaukee record its 82nd victory of the season and snap a two-game losing streak. The series concludes Thursday evening with Milwaukee's Jacob Misiorowski facing New York's Sean Manaea.
