Angel Reese Sets WNBA Single-Game and Season Rebound Records

Atlanta Dream forward Angel Reese set WNBA history on Monday, Aug. 24, 2026, grabbing a record-breaking 26 rebounds in a 78-71 victory over the Los Angeles Sparks at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.

Reese's 26 boards surpassed the single-game league mark of 24 held by Chamique Holdsclaw since 2003. Pulling down 18 defensive and eight offensive rebounds, she single-handedly out-rebounded the Sparks team defense, which secured 32 total boards.

The performance also elevated her single-season rebounding total to 458, breaking A'ja Wilson's 2024 record of 451. Reese accomplished the milestone with six regular-season games remaining, while adding 11 points to secure her 27th double-double of the season, as reported by USA Today and The New York Times.

Reese, who is averaging 16.1 points and 12.4 rebounds through 37 games, established her mindset following the game.

"Anything that goes up is mine," Reese said on Monday, Aug. 24. "I want to be one of (the best) when I walk away from the game. So just being able to ... be consistent every night is something I'm looking forward to doing."

The third-year forward also expressed gratitude toward Atlanta head coach Karl Smesko for supporting her offensive growth and technique.

"He works with my shooting every single day," Reese said on Monday. "Me being able to knock down threes, being consistent in my jump shot, finishing around the basket. And my teammates too, they put in a lot of work.

It helped me a lot. They get mad at me when I don't shoot it. So I just continue to just stay poised and push through everything."

Smesko praised Reese's progression throughout her first campaign with Atlanta after she spent her first two seasons with the Chicago Sky.

"She’s obviously been exceptional as of late," Dream coach Karl Smesko said of Reese, who added 11 points and three steals. "She’s had steady improvement throughout the season. You could see her every month, get a little more comfortable, and I think right now she’s really hitting her stride."

Teammates also highlighted the rarity of Reese's interior dominance following the road victory.

"I was looking at the stat thing and I'm like, 'Dang, 20 something,'" she recalled in her postgame interview. "I don't think in my life I got more than 10 rebounds. So that's just a talent. I'm just in awe just watching her rebound."

The victory capped an undefeated road trip for Atlanta, which recently secured its fourth consecutive playoff berth and the first postseason appearance of Reese's career.
