Amazon Secures Will Smith Thriller Supermax as Production Begins
Production on the upcoming Amazon action thriller Supermax officially began in New South Wales, Australia, with support from the local government as four additional actors join the ensemble cast.
The project marks Will Smith's first film role since starring in the 2024 feature Bad Boys: Ride or Die. Smith plays an FBI agent named Rex, who works alongside a younger partner to investigate a murder inside a maximum security prison.
According to Deadline, Nicholas Alexander Chavez, Andrés Almeida, Martin Bats Bradford, and Erika Ringor have officially joined the project. Chavez recently appeared in Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story and Grotesquerie, while Ringor previously appeared alongside Smith in the biographical drama King Richard.
The newly announced performers join previously confirmed cast members AnnaSophia Robb, who plays Smith's FBI partner, along with Jaafar Jackson and Australian actor Jason Clarke. Specific character details for the new cast members remain undisclosed, though several are expected to portray inmates given the prison setting.
Director David Gordon Green is helming the feature from a screenplay written by David Weil and David J. Rosen. Supermax will skip a traditional theatrical run and release directly on Amazon's Prime Video streaming platform at an unannounced date.
