Trump Expresses Satisfaction Over GOP Election Losses Outside His Races

President Donald Trump reportedly finds satisfaction when Republican candidates lose elections that do not involve him, according to New York Times journalist Maggie Haberman.

Haberman discussed this perspective during an appearance on MS NOW's "Morning Joe," where she also addressed Trump's recent trade conflict with Canada that puts Republican lawmakers in a difficult position.

She noted that Trump often pursues actions simply because he can, regardless of party consequences.

"He's going to do what he wants to do," Haberman said. "You and I both know, Joe, that often the question with him that people will ask is, ‘Why does he do x, y, z?’ And the answer is often because he can."

Haberman highlighted that Trump has expressed pride that Republicans perform worse electorally when he is not on the ballot.

"He has told people, and we wrote about this in the book, that he is proud Republicans don't do as well when he's not on the ballot," she stated. "He doesn't want to get impeached again. They don't want a lot of oversight."

She further explained Trump's indifference toward the potential consequences of Democrats taking control of the House in past years.

"He's not looking at this the way they did in 2018 or 2019, 2018. He was sort of indifferent to the fact that Democrats were probably going to take the House and what that could mean for him," Haberman added.

She also noted Trump's intention to pardon several individuals connected to the Oval Office.

"He has made very clear he's going to pardon any number of people who have come within a certain number of feet of the Oval Office," Haberman said.
